What will Diploma in X-Ray Technology program teach you?

This program comprises the study of theories and principles of electromagnetic radiation or X-Rays and their applications for muscle penetration, bones, and tissues and has internal images envisioned on a photographic film. Special guidance and training about exact dosing limits, ECG, equipment, venipuncture, procedures, injections, and scanning methods are imparted to make sure that the candidates are accurate, precise in their presentation, and are attentive to detail. It also provides a decent knowledge about Human Anatomy and physiology, Radiographic Techniques, and Ultrasonography.

Eligibility

For pursuing a diploma in X-Ray Technology, one must have a pass degree in Higher Secondary Examination along in science stream with a minimum percentage of 45 or more from any recognized board such as ICSE, CBSE, State Board, or equivalent. All admissions will be based on scores obtained in the entrance examination at the university level. Candidates might also get selected by some colleges based on their merit. The duration of the Diploma in X-Ray is a minimum of 2 years.

There are many roles in which they can be required, such as radiographers who are supposed to diagnose patients with the use of several radiation equipment as in MRI, CT Scan, X-Ray, etc. Then there are Computer Tomography Technologists who are commonly known as CT Scan Technologists. They are especially responsible for scanning an image of humanity’s internal body parts in case of any suspicion for any abnormalities.

Apart from this, there are Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Mammographer, and so on.

Job Responsibilities

X-Ray Technicians perform x-ray procedures on a human body and produce its images using several radiology devices.

There are certain responsibilities taken by them :

  • Guide the patient to have the correct physical position for the X-Ray to be done.
  • Prepare all the devices, rooms for the X-Ray procedure.
  • Develop the radiology film.
  • Prepare documentation of patient’s record according to the procedure.
  • Review the scanned images and decide whether they needed to be redone.

Income/ Salary 

 In India, the average salary of a student pursuing any profession with a diploma in X-Ray Technology is nearly INR 0.1 LPA to INR 4.8 LPA. Though it completely depends upon the job role one is assigned to.
